Script
(This music video will consist of three different scenarios, which all relate to the idea of the song. The narratives will intermingle with each other so that you gain knowledge of each scenario throughout the video. Each narrative is very writerley so that the audience has to think about the story and the problems within it. The first narrative is a marriage scenario. A couple are having troubled times and so are having arguments throughout the song. These include shots of heated argument, tearful faces, items being thrown and ignoring each other. However, there are very writerley shots of a woman with a veil over her face followed by an ultrasound scan. A symbolic shot in this video is when a ring falls to the floor in slow motion to show the ending of the marriage. These shots make the audience wonder what has happened to the couple to make them have the arguments. The second narrative is of a man in a church who has lost his faith in religion for reasons we don’t know. We see him in shots around the church which give the impression that he is either crying or praying, we do not know. The reason he is losing his religion is hinted at when we see a shot of a heartbeat monitor that is going very slowly, but we are still unsure until the end, when we see him looking at a gravestone in tears. This is done so that the audience is unsure of the story until the very end of the song. The final narrative is about losing your faith in social belongings. We are representing this with a guy who seems to be excluded from a social group or gang of youths. They are all having a good time, where he is not. We find out at the end that he is physically disabled and so he is excluded from the group because he is different from the others. This narrative is used to show the lack of equality in social groups, especially teenage groups)
