Mise-en-scene research

Mise-En-Scene Research
I am going to be analysing the mise-en-scene which we will need to ensure is in our music video to ensure that the mise-en-scene is appropriate and relevant so that the meaning of the song and the video is shown throughout the piece.
Firstly, in the social narrative, there is not a lot of mise-en-scene needed, as the main character will be in very populated situations. For example, when we see the group of teenagers, the mise-en-scene is very basic, as we only need to see a car park environment. This means that it needs to be a car park with brick walls that look quite old, which has been chosen by Chris Rushton, and it needs to be the sort of environment that a group of teenagers would converge. However, when we see him in the bedroom, there is a lot of mise-en-scene used. For example, the colour of the bedroom is a very neutral and light colour because it needs to look very innocent and vulnerable for the disabled boy. Also the colour of the bed sheets is a very neutral colour as its shows vulnerability and innocence, which also relates to the actors clothing, as they are a very similar colour.
Secondly, the religion narrative, there is a lot of mise-en-scene in the shot, but I this is because of the location of the shoot. For example, because of the shoot being in a church, a lot of the mise-en-scene used was already in the church, such as pews, flowers and crosses. Also the lighting of the church is helped by the fact that the stained glass windows gave us a very stylised lighting effect that made it look even more authentic for the church theme. When the actor is in the graveyard, the mise-en-scene is very basic, as the only things used were the fact that there are graveyards in the background with flowers and other stereotypical items. Overall, there is a lot of mise-en-scene in this narrative, but it was all very easy to obtain because the stereotypical themes and mise-en-scene of a church were already available in the church when we shot the film.
Finally,
The Marital marriage: fairly basic/abstract material to try and keep the video writerly. Locations such as the living room will be used to try and create some basic meaning of normality and link to the fact that the couple are living together, even though a living room may not be abstract at all we will be using a shot of an ultrasound showing a baby within a woman’s stomach, Once the actual shot is shown though within the video itself the ultrasound will seem rather abstract as they usually show a blackened image surrounded by multiple random white lines, which in actual fact is rather abstract. We also wish to use a wedding veil a wedding ring and a photo frame all of which will be used to link between marriage and the break up, the veil will be worn at a completely random time to again show abstractness and keep the music video as writerly as possible.
