Camera Shot & Angle Research

Camera shots and angles research
“Losing my Religion” uses mainly close-ups and medium shots to get a good amount of detail around the characters and settings and to represent clearly how faith is lost amongst those characters, for example a close up is used on one specific character who is looking down with a very serious and depressed facial expression this simple close up represents the characters feelings which can link to the idea of losing faith in a certain belief or faith. We are going to be using many close ups within our music video to try and show in as much detail the raw emotions that the characters will be experiencing and to let the audience think about what could be troubling the characters so much that they are experiencing such heavy emotions. An example of when we will use a close up is when the female character is wearing the wedding veil over head and then proceeds to reveal her face to show that she is crying showing that she has almost lost the will to live.
There are no particular angles used within the original music video but there are a few uses of panning shots to show the falling of an object such as the milk jug which could represent the loss of something, the panning technique is also used again on the singer as he tries to stand up but then proceeds to sit back down, this could be a representation that shows a repeated failure of trying. We only wish to use a panning technique once to mildly confuse the audience. The original video doesn’t really have any spectacular camera techniques the only ones that are really used are the mid shots and close ups. As there aren’t that many within the original we are going to add a few more camera techniques such as a canted angle or low and high angles to simply add more distortion and confusion as this will make the content more abstract and therefore more writerly to the audience.
